Massive coverage of the second annual Kirk Von Hammett’s Fear Festevil held on April 11 & 12 at the RockBar Theater in San Jose, click links below for tons of photos, individual reviews, & setlists.

Day 1 of the second annual Fear Festevil literally featured a monster lineup of local Bay Area talent both sonically and visually. If there was one band in the universe that epitomized Fear Festevil it’s Creepsylvania’s (think Oakland) masked madmen Ghoul. The thrash mutants took the stage in hooded masks & a hilariously entertaining stage show for one of the best sets of the weekend. Not to be confused with other run of the mill “guys in masks” band, this is a full theatrical show paired with heavy hitting, mosh driven thrash that really was the only true horror metal show of the weekend.

Voice overs narrated by “Curio Shop Owner” & hilarious banter from the band introduced each song (think Metalocalypse) while a cast of costumed monsters made appearances (think GWAR). Each one soaking the delighted crowd in gallons of fake blood cleverly blasted from various devices (large headless dog, turkey, small plastic baby doll). My favorite was during “Rise, Killbot, Rise!!!” which featured a giant robot fight with a giant gorilla gladiator. All I can say is these guys put on a hell of a show and highly recommend you check them out asap.

Ghoul is kicking off a US tour in May dubbed “Weapons of Mosh Destruction 3-D” with Phobia & Nekrofilth. Ghoul has released three full lengths, the latest 2011’s Transmission Zero and an EP in 2014 Hang Ten, both on TankCrimes Records.
