Seven Sisters of Sleep are the logical manifestation of cross genre experimentation that has been evolving in heavy music for arguably the last 30 or so years. Shifting between doom, d beat, sludge punk, and just plain fucking heavy, SSOS do it all without making a mess of it.

The third full length from SSOS,and their Relapse Records debut, Ezekiel’s Hags is like a doom record on steroids, it’s big beefy, and pissed off with uncontrolled rage shot in all directions. I hear a lot of people throw out the obvious Eyehategod comparison, and no denying it the band themselves have cited Eyehategod as a major influence, but SSOS has the potential to go beyond the genre tags that are being thrown at them from all directions. Listening to their back catalog, all the way up to Ezekiel’s Hags gives you a clear picture of a group of individuals with the same focus, and endgame in mind to destroy peoples pre-conceived ideas of what heavy music is, and can be.

In another words, if you like your tunes the way most drunks like their women at 2am, ugly, heavy and just not giving a fuck, it’s a gimmie. If not, you’ll hate it.
