Never Shout Never played at the TLA in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 16, 2016 as a stop on their Black Cat Tour. Touring in support of their their seventh full-length “Black Cat” released on August 7, 2015 on Sire/Warner Brothers. the quirky headliner was joined by Metro Station along with Jule Vera, & Waterparks.

Philadelphia has many great venues for live music such as the Electric Factory, The Fillmore, and The TLA, just to name a few. The music scene is extremely diverse, so you can always find a new band to listen to. The TLA is one of my favorite venues because it’s smaller which means it’s more personal and you feel more connected to both the music and band/artist. Each time I’ve been there, I’ve had a great time with no complaints.

To start the show, Jule Vera, an alternative band, rocked the stage with their catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics. Lead singer, Ansley Newmann, made you want to sing every word with her as passionately as you could. Up next was Waterparks, a pop-punk band from Texas. With their melodic guitar riffs and playful personalities, how can you not like this band? Waterparks is definitely a great example of what a good pop-punk band is like.  Metro Station, a synthpop band from Los Angeles, took the stage by storm with their No. 1 hit, “Shake It.” With Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso on vocals, you can’t resist from singing with them. The highly energetic band had the crowd looking like it was the best night of their lives

Finally, it was time for Never Shout Never to take the stage. When the energetic band went on, the crowd screamed bloody murder. As the first chords to their opening song “piggy bank” played, the fans knew right away and didn’t hesitate to sing all of the lyrics with lead singer, Christofer Drew. Drew interacted with the crowd quite frequently which made it more personal; you felt like you knew the guy and were just having a casual conversation with him. Everyone was having a great time and blurted out the lyrics to every song like it was the last night of their lives.

The music was great and they performed some of their songs with a reggae and country twist. The band played songs from prior albums and EPs and from their newest album Black Cat. I definitely encourage you to see them when they’re playing near you because you’ll have an overall great time. The music is catchy and you’ll want to sing along to every song. Never Shout Never is a truly talented and underrated band that deserves more recognition.

Never Shout Never was formed by Christofer Drew in 2007 as a solo project which ended up progressing to being a full band. They have released six EPs and seven albums through Sire Records and Warner Bros. Records.
