`Swell Season at Mountain Winery was amazing until someone decided it was time to end their life and made an entire audience unwilling witnesses,” wrote one audience member.

The man identified as Michael Edward Pickels of San Jose, committed suicide during the Irish Folk duo The Swell Season’s performance at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California. 1900 stared in horror “I saw him [Pickels] standing there on the edge of the roof, I thought it was a part of the act, and then he took off running and jumped, did a couple of flips and landed on the stage,” audience member Kyle Rivers told the paper. “It was pretty traumatic.’”.

Mercury News has reported that Pickels was facing charges of assault with a firearm, domestic violence and false imprisonment. He was out on $150,000 bail at the time of his death and was scheduled to be in court on Oct. 5.

Kung Fu Vampire is horrorcore’s only full live band and will be destroying speakers across the US with the 2010 Re-Release of Dead Sexy. Featuring the “iCount” music video, as well as Dead Sexy’s most prominent hit “Dead Girls Don’t Say No” which is appearing on Darren Bousman‘s (Saw 2, 3, 4 & Repo The Genetic Opera) remake of the classic 1980 horror film Mother’s Day

After returning home from a 44 City national tour with Twiztid of Psychopathic Records (formed by Insane Clown Posse) and Potluck (Suburban Noize), Kung Fu Vampire hits the road again headlining the DEAD4Life Tour. Reporting from the road is KFV touring drummer and Shine Drums Artist Chris Paxton (WHOGAS, 880South, EastBaySick) from the Bay Area.

Tour Diary: “Joining us on this tour we have America’s most controversial rapper MARS of Mad Insanity Records, as well as Gangster Rap Heavy-Weight Liquid Assassin.

After a two day trek across the United States, KungFu Vampire arrived in Chicago for the first show of the tour. Fangsters came from near and far to enjoy the sounds of the worlds first and only Vampire Hip Hop Band. After an extremely fulfilling show we immediately shoved out to make the 6hr drive to rock Blondies in Detroit, MI. This show had a massive lineup with over 8 acts including Prep School Tragedy, AMSK and Canadian HorrorCore band So Sick Social Crew. Detroit HipHop legends Mastermind and Tre lb. of ChopShop were also in the building showing their support in the birth place of Horrorcore.

After 2 hours of shut-eye we started our drive West to Milwaukee to get down at the Infamous venue The Rave. It was built for Hitler back in the 30’s to be his palace after he took over America. It is considered haunted and people have died in the venue. Jeffery Dahmer used to pick up his victims across the street and Al Capone used the tunnels under the venue to escape police. This place has insane amounts of history to say the least. Today is a day off for the tour and time to drive to Kansas City, MO. Stay tuned to the ShineDrums App for more exclusive updates of the Dead4Life tour.”

You can find Kung Fu Vampire slaughtering venues across America! If you want to experience the madness first hand check out our tour schedule @ www.kungfuvampire.com

Much love to everyone at Shine drums hooking me up with a matching pair of “murdered out” (All Black) snares.
An infestation of pigeons living in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO, forced the Kings of Leon to walk offstage after three songs last night.

Commentary by Jeff Longo

Yep, you read that right. The Kings of Leon stunned a capacity crowd when they walked off the stage after playing only three songs (see below for the official press release). I’ve got to say, really? I mean, really? I am laughing my ass off. You have got to be kidding me.

OK, so I get it. I understand its disgusting; a flock of pigeons kicking it up in the rafters; dropping their shit-bombs. Yes, the venue should take care of it, but to walk off stage and leave? There was no other alternative? Have you ever heard of the expression ‘The show must go on?’

If a bird shits on you, move! If you can’t move then have someone hold an umbrella over you or something, but don’t be a pussy. You don’t leave a capacity crowd that paid good money to hear your shitty music unless it’s an emergency. PERIOD. Well, unless it was a real shit storm, then all bets are off. In a real shit storm the only objective is survival. But there wasn’t a real shit storm in St Louis was there? No.

Kings of Leon only see shit, I see opportunity. Imagine if Caleb (lead vocalist) got on the mic and explained “they just can’t handle it anymore getting shit on and all, and would you mind if they took 10 mins so they can put an acoustic rig down in the front row where birds aren’t shitting on us and make the best of it, what do you think?” Hey, couple of guitars and some mics, AT LEAST, even if it’s for one song. Whatever; take a look in the mirror. Looks like the pigeons weren’t the only ones shitting on people in St Louis.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PIGEON INFESTATION FORCES KINGS OF LEON OFFSTAGE EARLY IN ST. LOUIS

An infestation of pigeons living in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO, forced the Kings of Leon to walk offstage after three songs last night. Even though opening bands The Postelles and The Stills came offstage complaining of getting riddled with large amounts of pigeon excrement, the Kings of Leon decided to carry on regardless. The band felt it would be unfair to the fans to cancel the show at that late moment.

“I’m surprised they stayed on for as many songs as they did,” said Andy Mendelsohn of Vector Management. “Jared was hit several times during the first two songs. On the third song, when he was hit in the cheek and some of it landed near his mouth, they couldn’t deal any longer. It’s not only disgusting — it’s a toxic health hazard. They really tried to hang in there. We want to apologize to our fans in St. Louis and will come back as soon as we can.”

When the band arrived earlier in the day, the venue warned management that there had been a significant pigeon infestation problem with summer shows over the years, but they were doing all they could to fix it.

“We couldn’t believe what The Postelles and The Stills looked like after their sets,” said Jared Followill. “We didn’t want to cancel the show, so we went for it. We tried to play. It was ridiculous.”

Kings of Leon are headed to Chicago tonight to perform at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre as scheduled.

The mighty Mastodon made another run thorough the Bay Area during their North American spring tour in support of their latest masterpiece ”Crack The Skye” (2009 Reprise Records). This time around they brought with them a diverse group of supporting acts including special guests Between the Buried and Me, Baroness and Valient Thorr. As if that lineup wasn’t already brilliant enough the metal gods shined their light on Oakland California on this particular evening to create the first annual Missing Link Festival, by adding underground metal legends High on Fire along with Black Cobra and Bison B.C . The two tribes collided and launched a sonic assault on the Bay Area.

The day was brutal starting with a trampling from Vancouver B.C. natives Bison B.C. Power duo Black Cobra shook the rafters of the Fox Theater with their rawkus set featuring songs from their new album ‘Chronomega (2009 Southern Lord) And the enigmatic Valient Thorr, never ones to disappoint, set the bar for the remaining acts with a dirty beer drenched set of crusty AC/DC inspired rock.

Valient Thorr Setlist
1. Disappeared

High on Fire threatened to bring the building down on the home crowd as they powered through some of their best material to date. They unloaded on the crowd with cuts from the critically acclaimed ‘Snakes for the Divine’ (2010 Relapse). Stand out tracks were the 8 minute epics ‘How Dark We Pray’ and ‘Snakes for the Divine‘.

5. Rumors of War
6. Fire, Flood & Plague

Baroness took the stage basked in a blue light, in keeping with the theme of their latest outing ‘The Blue Album’ (2009 Relapse Records) They ripped through a set of new and old, as the crowd sang along with every track. We at Stubble wish we could tell you how Between the Buried and Me were, however we were downing cold ones and watching the Sharks dispatch the Detroit Red Wings in the playoffs at the bar, sorry to all the BTBM fans. We have seen them before and they are amazing as I’m sure they were on this day as well.

Baroness Setlist
1. Isak
2. The Birthing
3. The Sweetest Curse

Mastodon took the stage as the crowd roared its approval for their crusty heroes. The headliners grabbed their instruments and struck the first notes of ‘Oblivion’ the opening track on their latest release, ‘Crack the Skye’ (2009 Reprise). They ran through their seven song opus with grace and ease. The acoustics in the Fox Theater are excellent and mixed to perfection with clean vocals, sharp guitars and thunderous drums. As the band wrapped up the final song ‘The Last Baron’ and began exiting the stage to ominous keys and a stunning set of visuals on the screen, singer/guitarist Brent Hinds picked up his microphone, slammed it down on stage and stormed off.

The filled to capacity venue cheered loudly and chanted for the foursome to return for an encore. They returned to the stage minus Brent Hinds, and picked up their instruments one more time. Singer/bassist Troy Sanders wholeheartedly thanked the crowd for their devotion to the band and for coming out for such a big event and staying to the bitter end. He asked the crowd if they wanted one more, and began playing ‘Blood and Thunder’ (2004 Leviathan) as a three piece.

Brent Hinds could be seen on the side of the stage halfway into the song with his guitar showing a young lady how to play the song, it was odd. They finished the song and made their way off stage to a huge round of cheers and drunken shouting. The lights came up and the show was over, only one song for the encore was definitely kind of weird, but their hour plus set was amazing so it wasn’t such a big deal. The show was scheduled to end at 11:30, so the plan from the outset had been to end with a three-song encore, but the crowd did not seem to notice much. Aside from that little hiccup it was an amazing day of underground music, all culminating with headliners Mastodon, who are not afraid to venture out into different territory and give the crowd a bang for their buck. If they are coming to your town go see them, if they aren’t buy all of their records you can; this band deserves your support.

StubbleTV – Korn/Five Finger Death Punch

Stubble: How’s it going?
Fieldy: Chillin out, just started this tour, hanging out.
Stubble: How did the first show go?
Fieldy: It’s a massive, big show. Every band has a lot of like production, its huge man.

Stubble: What can we expect from your show tonight? You got any fire, any midgets, inflatables?
Fieldy: We do got some pyro, it’s a big set, I don’t really want to give it away, it’s pretty cool though. It’s always fun to come to a concert where the band has some big stuff, not a lot of people do it anymore.
Stubble: No chance of you setting your hair on fire with any of these pyrotechnics right?
Fieldy: Not on purpose.

© 2010 Jeff Longo

Stubble: So you have a new album coming out, is that in August?
Fieldy: No it comes out on the 13th of this month.
Stubble: So Korn III, why the name change?
Fieldy: Well, we worked with Ross Robinson on the first two Korn records. He did this one with us, so we figured this is the third record we did with him and we kinda started with him, so it kinda just felt right.

Stubble: How did the crowd react to the new material at the first show?
Fieldy: Nobody knows it yet, so they reacted just like I thought, nobody knows it, what do you do? So you just listen you know? We only do three new ones, which for me… I mean I don’t know, you know, you gotta start somewhere, see who’s feeling what. The one song that we have out, Oildale (leave me alone), people love it, I mean that’s been out on the radio for a while…

Stubble: Yeah, you guys busted that on Jimmy Kimmel the other night and I noticed the crowd already had the words down, you’ve got a pretty die hard following.
Fieldy: Yeah they know it. When you do the new stuff they don’t know it yet, but in a couple of days they will.

Stubble: So are you going to come riding out on your new Harley?

Fieldy: Oh yeah, it’s out there! I got a Harley I did up, I put stickers all over it, I spent a lot of time on that thing man.
Stubble: Do you ride?
Fieldy: Yeah.

Stubble: So, you guys recently played in a crop circle?

Fieldy: Yeah.
Stubble: What was that all about?
Fieldy: There’s like four guys in the world that do that, and they get these big boards and rope, and like smash the…
Stubble: So it’s not aliens?
Fieldy: I mean no, yeah there’s some aliens that did it. Nah, it’s pretty crazy though it’s a big project.
Stubble: Is it in the middle of nowhere?
Fieldy: (nods his head yes) We did a concert in the middle of nowhere, for nobody, we just did it. In the middle we just jammed out songs, just feeling the vibe you know, creating a vibe.

Stubble: So you guys are working doing that Song for Chi?

Fieldy: I did that.
Stubble: How’s he doing?
Fieldy: He’s doing better, he’s at a stage right now where he’s starting to open up his eyes and move around. I’m still in contact with his mom; he’s doing a lot better.

Stubble: I hear you’re working on a side project?

Fieldy: Yeah it’s called Stillwell, I play guitar in that, and it’s got Wuv from P.O.D on drums, the vocalist’s name is Q. The albums almost done it’s called, Surrounded by liars.

© 2010 Jeff Longo

Stubble: So is this you’re your project, are you writing all of it?
Fieldy: I did do all of the musical writing, me and Q work together, you know kind of a team.

Stubble: Is it a different outlet, you know stuff you can’t play in Korn?
Fieldy: Absolutely, stuff I do with Stillwell no way I could pull off with Korn. Here, I got some picks (hands Jeff and Josh Stillwell picks) I got picks now because I play guitar in Stillwell! You know, I never had a reason before to have picks because I don’t play with a pick in Korn, you know I mostly slap the bass. I thought about making thumbs, throw out a thumb, throw out a thumb (gesturing throwing thumbs into the crowd).

Stubble: Will we ever get a chance to catch Stillwell? You gonna do any touring? I assume you’re going to be busy with the release of the new Korn album, when can we expect to see some Stillwell?

Fieldy: It’s almost done, so we just gotta find a way to release it…
Stubble: I’ll release it for ya!
Fieldy: How you wanna do this?
Stubble: Just send it over and I’ll…
Fieldy: Throw it on…
Stubble: We’ll door to door it, one at a time. We’ll stuff envelopes…
Fieldy: That’s the way to do it! One fan at a time!

Stubble: Anything you want to say to the vast audience that is Stubble?

Fieldy: Pick up the new Korn record, Korn III (Remember who you are) it’s out July 13th; it comes with a whole live DVD… It’s not even live, it’s almost like a video for every song, I like to have a visual you know? I even did it with Stillwell where every song has a video to it.
Stubble: Did you work on any of that?
Fieldy: My partner Sebastian, who has shot a lot of video for Korn, he does the videos. Is this for me? (grabs a can of Rockstar)
Stubble: It’s for you.

Stubble: How does it feel to be a Rock star? Since we are at the Rockstar Mayhem festival…
Fieldy: It’s really not for everybody, but if you love to travel, you love to be on planes, there’s a lot of traveling involved. I’m cool with it, but now that I have four kids and my wife at home, if it wasn’t for them I’d love this. But being away from the family makes it a little bit harder, so it’s like (shrugs)
Stubble: So is Korn going to tour after Rockstar? You guys doing the States, going to Europe? What’s the plan?
Fieldy: Yeah, we’re going to Europe, we’re doing some shows with Ozzy over there, um Europe and Japan right now, and then from there I don’t know, we’ll be out there look for us!
